The Sea Crest Motel rests above Highway 101 at the south end of quiet Port Orford on Oregon's south coast. The motel is a two story, 18 room lodging with spectacular ocean views. Enjoy storms in the comfort of your room and sip coffee or tea to winter sunsets. In late December and mid-March you can observe the whale migrations as they pass by going south or north. Some whales even stay around from April to October and can be observed feeding in the kelp beds just off shore. Brown pelicans entertain us from July through September with their synchronized flying and diving.
January Ring in the new year watching whales migrating south. Enjoy storm watching and winter sunsets. February Take a mid-winter get away for President's weekend. March Fly kites high on the beach. We have the wind for it! Watch whales migrate north. April Watch flock of birds returning from the south as they pass through. Watch an occasional whale spout. Watch fishing boats come and go from the docks. May Enjoy beach combing, hiking up Humbug Mountain or strolling out on Coast Guard Hill. If you fancy deep sea diving then the waters off Port Orford are for you. Enchanting sights await you! We entertain sea kayakers, divers and surfers alike. Tour the lighthouse at Cape Blanco or the lighthouse keeper's house at historic Hughe's House June Bicyclists start passing by on their trek down the scenic Highway 101 bike trail. Picnic on the beach. Watch for the return of the swallows and hummingbirds. They love to feed on the fuschias right outside the rooms. Enjoy the aquatic life in the tidepools at low tide. Just take a stroll down the uncrowded beaches. July Enjoy an old fashioned 4th of July with picnics on the beach. Watch the fireworks display right from your room! Many events take place during the long 4th of July weekend. Bike races, Saltwater Open (golf on the beach with tennis balls), pancake breakfast, wind surfing demonstrations, square dancing, Parade, Dinghy Races and a Salmon Bar-B-Que (just to name a few!) August Watch whales and pelicans, sunsets and sunrises. Hunt for agates, hunt for treasures on the beach or in the numerous antique shops and art galleries. Painters and photgraphers find enchanting scenery to capture and take home. Watch sailboats and yachts come and go. September Enjoy mild Indian Summers. Less wind and warm temperatures make September and October the time to visit the Oregon Coast. Children are back in school and the traffic is diminished. Whales still spout and sometimes the pelicans stay through the end of September. October By mid October the rains return to green up our parched earth and dry yards. If you enjoy bundling up and walking in the rain this is the time for you. Quiet times and spectacular sunsets await you in October. November Get your fishing gear in shape because this is the month to start fishing the Sixes and Elk Rivers for the elusive salmon. The Elk River is 3 miles north of the motel and the Sixes River is 6 miles north. (We only have two roll away beds, so if there are three fishermen wanting three beds make your reservations early! December Fishing continues and at the end of the month the whales start migrating south.

There's a lot to do in our little town of Port Orford and the surrounding area. The Port of Port Orford is one main attraction. You'll spend some time here just getting to know the friendliness of the local folk. Diving instructors who know these waters bring their students from far off places bound for Nellie's Cove and other offshore destinations near Port Orford. They are never disappointed. With so much diversity there is something to interest everyone from photographing the whales as they migrate north or south to sightseeing, boat watching, fishing or just enjoying the wonderful view from so many vistas. Some of the most beautiful shorelines and sights on the Oregon coast can be found on the last 60 mile stretch before reaching the California border. Oregon is well known for attracting bicycling enthusiasts. Imagine yourself biking down the coast in mid-summer's day. Be sure to request a room with the Sea Crest Motel well in advance; bicyclists from all over are familiar with the good deal they get here and the 'No Vacancy' sign is up most of the summer months. There are so many places along the coast to see, all with their own special beauty. One never tires of the incredible scenery while idling or peddling along the Pacific Coast Highway. The Port Orford Visitor's Center on the Highway just south of town is built at the Hoistoric Battle Rock site and offers history and free area publications listing local events and areas of interest. To the south of Port Orford just passed Humbug Mountain you will find the Prehistoric Gardens nestled in the ancient rain forests. Here you can get in a walk and see very old growth forest protected by Oregon for all to enjoy.
